One fully funded PhD position is available in the research group of Dr. Mike McDonald to undertake research at the interface of experimental evolution and microbiome ecology. The project will involve the handling and passaging of bacteria, whole genome sequencing, cutting edge molecular genetic techniques and DNA sequence data analysis. Our goal is to use experimental evolution to track co-evolution and Horizontal Gene Transfer in model, lab-based microbiomes. Specifics of the research project will be discussed upon application.
