The Department is interested in reviewing the most well-crafted, persuasively argued sample applicants are able to provide. Such papers are often derived from an upper-level undergraduate history class in which the student conducted independent research and employed both primary and secondary sources. If the student has an MA in history, the writing sample should be taken from a thesis or a major paper written in a graduate seminar.
